Dr. Thomas Dow, a 1989 graduate of Wabash College, has received a 2019 Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty Recognition from the American Association of Community Colleges. This national award recognizes individuals who make a difference in the classroom by demonstrating passion, showing a willingness to support students inside and outside of the classroom, participating in college committees and going above and beyond what is required to ensure student success.
Dr. Dow was named the 2018 Illinois Community
College Trustees Association Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Award winner and was
the Illinois nominee for the Association of Community College Trustees Regional
award. In addition, in 2018, he received a League Excellence Award from the
League for Innovation in the Community College and was named Professor of the
Year at Moraine Valley Community College.
received his Master’s degree in English from Loyola University Chicago in 1996
and earned a Ph.D. in English from Loyola University Chicago in 2006. He is a
professor of English and Department Chair of Communications, Literature and
Languages at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Illinois.
Matthias Mitman of Virginia, to be the Executive Secretary of
the National Security Council.
Mitman, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of
Minister-Counselor, most recently served as Chief of Staff to the Special
Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs. He previously served as Principal
Officer in U.S. Consulates General in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Erbil, Iraq; and
Basrah, Iraq. Mr. Mitman was also the Deputy Chief of Mission at U.S. Embassy
Tegucigalpa, Honduras and Minister Counselor for Economic Affairs at U.S.
Embassy Moscow, Russia. This will be his third detail to the National Security
Council, having earlier served as Senior Duty Officer in the White House
Situation Room and as Director for Iraq. Before joining the Foreign Service,
Mr. Mitman taught as an Assistant Professor of Economics at Ball State
University. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the National War College and
earned an A.B. from Wabash College.

(Los Angeles, Calif. – Sept. 15, 2019) The Television Academy tonight presented the second of its two 2019 Creative Arts Emmy® Awards ceremonies honoring outstanding artistic and technical achievement in television at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony honored performers, artists and craftspeople for excellence in short form drama and comedy series, casting, cinematography, and guest performers in comedy and drama series.

Adam Alexander is an attorney in Ice Miller’s Litigation Practice. He earned his juris doctor from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law. Adam worked with capital defendants in Northwestern’s Bluhm Legal Clinic. He also clerked for the Solicitor General Division of the Indiana Attorney General’s Office, where he reviewed requests to file amicus curiae briefs in the U.S. Supreme Court, participated in moot courts with the Solicitor General and prepared briefs for the Seventh Circuit and Indiana Supreme Court. Edward Jones Financial Advisor Leo E Priemer of South Bend, IN recently attended the Barron’s 2019 Top Financial Advisors Summit. The conference was held in Palm Beach, Fla., Sept. 18 – 20.

Jason Hood ’91 has joined Eastern Illinois University as Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs. Jason is responsible for a variety of faculty issues related to collective bargaining agreements and the curriculum process.
