Muncie Community Schools recently welcomed Mike Raters ’85 as the new principal of Southside Middle School.
“I’ve been looking for an opportunity like this for a school with dedicated teachers and staff in a district that isn’t afraid to try new ways of doing things in order to develop a school culture that helps students thrive,” Raters said in a Star Press report. “All of that is here at Southside.”
Raters first taught at Scecina Memorial High School in Indianapolis and then served as a governmental team leader, teacher and coach at Franklin Central High School from 1987-2004.
From there, he went back to Wabash College, serving as associate dean of students for four years and then holding the title of dean from 2008 until 2019. Last semester, Raters was principal on an interim basis of Mount Vernon Middle School. He comes to Southside with more than 30 years of classroom and administrative experience.
While at Wabash, Raters majored in history and minored in education and teacher education. He was a member of the Glee Club, Sphinx Club, Tau Kappa Epsilon, and played baseball.
