Steve Mackin

Steve Mackin ’98 was announced as the incoming Mercy president and CEO, effective April 1, 2022.

Mackin joined Mercy in March 2017 and has served as executive vice president, president of Mercy’s east region, president of Mercy Hospital St. Louis and senior executive for business line development with an initial focus on cancer services in Mercy’s east region.

“I am humbled by the board’s decision and I will work diligently to serve our co-workers, patients and communities in a way that reflects our Sisters’ legacy — a bias for action, dignity, hospitality, right relationships and fullness for life,” Mackin said in a news release.

Prior to joining the health system, Mackin spent nearly 19 years with Cancer Treatment Centers of America. During his tenure, he progressed from a management fellow to executive positions including chief operating officer and interim president of the organization.

Mackin earned a bachelor’s degree from Wabash College and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Tulsa.

While at Wabash, Mackin majored in English, and double minored in political science and rhetoric. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi, the Sphinx Club, The Bachelor and WNDY Radio. He also played football and baseball.
