Ernesto Vela ’95 was recently named director of California’s Region 16 office, as a specialist in Monterey County’s Migrant Education Program.

The Salinas Californian reported:  “Ernesto Vela, whose education career has been based largely in migrant education, was named to the region’s top job on Tuesday. The Region 16 office operates out of the Monterey County Office of Education.”  He will oversee the California state office responsible for delivering supportive services to the county’s more than 11,000 migrant students enrolled from pre-school to high school.

Ernie was quickly involved in his education career after graduation.  In 2006, a Wabash web story described his passion to help immigrant children as he moved from teacher to principal to administrator.

Congratulations, Ernie!
