The Reed/Ohmer blog was #930 – this one won’t count. When this started 4 years ago, I couldn’t envision getting to 50, let alone 1,000. In that time, I’ve received 88 comments on the blog – an average of a little under 2 a month. So, readership is an open question, to say the least! I know there are 9 faithful readers (Carol, two sons, and 6 grandchildren – I make them look at it!)
88 comments, of course, does not not include all the offers for all sorts of personal help…
I plan to hit 1,000 entries – probably by Christmas. As you know, if you read this, I already have written the last one. It was published a little early – May 17, 2008 – but it’ll be the last one as well.
A promise is a promise.

I don’t know what you are talking about … better get ready to start on the next 1,000 after the first 1,000. While I only speak for myself (but I believe this to be true in the larger group as well), I start my morning with coffee and a look at the Grunge Blog. It is my “upper” for the day. The lack of comments of which you speak, simply signifies everyones’ simple satisfaction of living the College through Grunge’s eyes … one more day.
I read all your entries, Tom. I would be sad to see it go. If it has to go, I would love to see similar content on Facebook. To me, it’s a superior form of content delivery compared to the alternatives and allows the best user interaction.
Mr. Runge, I’m the tenth faithful. Believe me or not, I check the Grunge Report daily. I’ll start leaving comments more often.
I am sure many more folks than you know read your blog without comment. As a writer, I’d say if you want more comments, be more controversial. But that might take what you do in the wrong direction. Your blog gives alumni a candid look a the campus RIGHT NOW. It’s neat, handy, and goes good with coffee. (That’s a compliment.) But frankly, I don’t think it’s worth being tweeted about. Do another 1000! JR
There’s no better blog at Wabash. Several hundred readers every day and you want to hang it up? Some of us dream of having that many folks read our stuff. Keep up the great work!
Tom – I have been checking this blog (among the other Wabash ones) usually once or twice a week for roughly the past year but have yet to ‘comment.’ Maybe I have learned my lesson. It is an informative way to check out what’s going on with all things Wabash — Keep up the good work!
Tom, you’re too modest. You motivated me to start my blog, of which I have been uncharacteristically feckless in posting to of late. This is a wonderful means of keeping us all in the loop. I’ve learned that you can’t measure a blog like this by comments alone. Look at how many class agents get information about the campus to their classmates directly from your posts. I echo the sentiments already expressed. You provide a great insight to the vibrancy of campus life, even if it’s a simple picture of a snowfall or a small statement of what an alum is doing.
By all means, keep going. Wabash Always Writes!

I don’t drink coffee, but I read your blog entry every single day, as soon as sit on my office chair and turn my computer on. It’s like reading the newspaper and going to the editorial that you like or the horoscope to see what kind of day you are going to have. Your daily, short piece on our scarlet lives is what the Doctor ordered! Don’t even dare to hang it up!
