Richard Gunderman ’83

Indianapolis radiologist Richard Gunderman, MD, PhD, will serve as the 179th president of the Indiana State Medical Association, following his election Sunday at the ISMA’s annual convention.

Dr. Gunderman is Chancellor’s Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy, and Medical Humanities and Health Studies at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is a 10-time recipient of the IU Trustees’ Teaching Award, and the author of 15 books, including “We Make a Life by What We Give” and “We Come to Life With Those We Serve.’ Dr. Gunderman graduated summa cum laude from Wabash College and earned his MD and PhD at the University of Chicago. An ISMA member since 2005, Dr. Gunderman chairs the organization’s Physician Wellness Steering Committee.

While at Wabash, Gunderman was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and majored in biology.
