Dr. Thomas D. Brogan ’88 will present a talk on campus tonight, sponsored by the Classics Department, entitled “Flavors, Aromas, and Bright Colors: Making ‘Sense’ of New Discoveries in Late Bronze Age Levels on Crete.” Tom is the director of INSTAP Study Center for East Crete. After Wabash, he received his MA and PhD degrees from Bryn Mawr College.
He was an intern at Prof. Leslie Day’s dig in 1987 and returned in 1988 as a trench-master. From 1990 to 1994 he dug at Mochlos (where he is the Assistant Director). In 1992-93 he was a Fulbright Fellow at the American School of Classical Studies. Currently his is Director of the East Crete Research Center in Pachyammos, Crete.
Tom has been an active member of several excavations in east Crete during the past 20 years, primarily at Mochlos. His research interests include Minoan material culture (pottery, weights, and architecture). His lecture will review his recent excavations at three Neopalatial settlements in East Crete: Papadiokambos, Mochlos, and Chrissi.
