Well over 300 young men and ther families descended upon Wabash for Honors Weekend.  Of course, Mom and Dad are here cheering them on and telling them to get some sleep and focus on the tests. That’s what Moms and Dads are supposed to do, right?  And I am sure their sons will do just that…while finely balancing the rest of the weekend experiences with that focus and the tests.

As I was standing in Chapel, one set of parents came in and were headed up to the balcony as the main level was pretty full.  Mom, spotting her son, told Dad she was just going to tell their son they would be in the balcony.  I reflected on that a second…and had to smile.  In a few short months he’ll be on his own…wonder how many times she’ll call him, or he will call her?  Wonder…well, you know the rest.

This going away to college – it’s especailly tough on Moms, I think.

In this group is probably another Bill Placher…another Mike Bachner…another David Kendall…another Jeremy Wright….another Mark Dietzen…another Brock Graham…another Jeremy Robinson…another world changer.

These young men are/will be members of the class of 2013.  Now…think about that for a moment or two.  That makes a guy like yours truly, proud member of the class of 1971, feel pretty old.
