Wabash will celebrate the life and and legacy of Martin Luther
King, Jr. on January 21, 2008. It doesn’t seem possible that Dr. King was assassinated 40 years ago this coming April!
Here are the details on the campus events from Dr. Tim Lake, director of our Malcolm X Institute of Black Studies.
“The celebration begins with a Campus March to symbolize the nonviolent protest method deployed by King and others to dramatize social, political, and economic inequalities. We will gather at the Chapel to start the march at 12:15 pm and end at the MXIBS. Mr. William Smith will share reflections on life in Chicago during the time of King’s assassination and, also, deliver King’s “I Have A Dream” speech. Lunch will be served.
Noted King scholar Rufus Burrow, Jr. will keynote the evening program in the Chapel at 7pm. Dr. Burrow is a graduate of Boston University where he earned a Ph.D. in Social Ethics. His book “God And Human Dignity: The Personalism, Theology, and Ethics of Martin Luther King, Jr.” was published by the University of Notre Dame Press in 2006.”
