Emanuel Harper ‘10 teaches French at Herron High School in Indianapolis. Herron is a public charter school founded on the belief that a classical, liberal arts education, where students are steeped in great historical thought and invention, is the best preparation for a future life of leadership and service.
Last Friday, Emanuel was one of four witnesses who testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education, at a hearing to explore the innovative methods states and school districts are using to evaluate and promote teacher effectiveness. Emanuel, who majored in French and minored in Spanish at Wabash, teaches four levels of French at Herron. He is a 2009 cohort member of the Indianapolis Teaching Fellows and is currently pursuing a Masters of Arts in Teaching at Marian University. Emanuel is a founding member of the Indianapolis chapter of Stand For Children–a public education reform initiative–and works with The New Teacher Project. And, his hobbies include watching Star Trek (in French!).
