Dr. William T. Luckey ’82 is president of Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky – which he has earned the right to call “home.” He became the eighth president of LWC in 1997, having arrived on campus in 1983 to work in the college’s admissions office, then worked his way up to Director of Admissions, Vice President for Enrollment Management, Vice President for Development, and then Vice President for Administration and Finance.
Bill was last on the Wabash campus during Big Bash 2012 to present a colloquium topic, “No Ivy on our Walls,” where he shared the demographics of the LWC and surrounding Appalachian country and how those demographics shape the college’s mission and teaching. Bill recalled how the impact his own education as a first generation college student at Wabash changed his trajectory. His goal is for Lindsey Wilson College to provide as rich an experience as it can to the students it serves – 82% of whom are first generation students and 72% Pell grant recipients just as he was.
Bill was featured this month in the CASE Currents magazine: Each Thanksgiving, Bill and his wife, Elise, open their home to everyone on campus for Thanksgiving dinner – guests include lots of students, and perhaps some faculty and alumni, who need a good home-cooked meal for the holidays, shared with the Luckey Family – and home-cooked it is! Bill and Elise do all of the cooking themselves without any help – and that includes two turkeys, a whole turkey breast, and two hams to serve the anticipated 60 guests each year. The question is – who gets to do the dishes during the football games on T.V.?
