This summer, I had the honor and privilege to work and learn at Will Grundy Medical Clinic. During my time there, I was a part of a group of interns that were tasked with recruiting more patients but also got the opportunity to Shadow and scribe for a few different physicians and experience what It is like to be in a medical scenery firsthand. Patient outreach was very important to us as Covid had affected Will Grundy terribly, we initially made some changes to things like flyers, and our website to try to fix this
problem. Then, we were able to create a functional referral system for the clinic in hopes to get these patient numbers back to where they used to be, and where they should be.
This internship allowed me to be in positions I have never been in and offered me a ton of great lessons within this field. Working
with experienced physicians was great, but very stressful and I often felt pressure to be perfect and impress them. I quickly learned that this is not possible, and mistakes are quite common, this helped me build a sense of comfort in this type of scenery and prosper. Not only did I work for the clinic, but I was also involved with the social work team and was able to run events for people in need and that are underrepresented. This was a very wholesome experience for me as I got to understand the privileges, I have every day without realizing it. I believe these events topped the shadowing and scribing for me.
Being able to help those people out and be a source for them was amazing and I loved every second of it. I would like to thank Jill Rogers for helping me obtain this opportunity. I would also like to thank all of the Will Grundy Medical Clinic staff for being lovely people and always making every day easy, they not only treated me like another staff member, but also offered me a lot of advice and tips for the future.
