As the summer of 2023 winds down, I find myself reminiscing about my captivating experiences as an intern at the Austrian Economics Center in the charming city of Vienna, Austria. This journey not only deepened my understanding of economics but also allowed me to dive headfirst into the vibrant tapestry of European cultures, while making some life-long friends along the way.

My days at the Austrian Economics Center were a captivating blend of challenges and excitement. From the outset, I was entrusted with tasks that pushed me beyond my boundaries. Crafting economics blog posts became a daily ritual, enabling me to unravel intricate economic concepts and present them in a relatable manner to an English-speaking audience.
A definite highlight of my internship was participating in extensive research to support economists. Delving into data, searching through scholarly resources, and weaving together information to justify an analysis provided me with a firsthand look into the dedication and meticulousness demanded by academic research.

However, the zenith of my internship journey came when I contributed a chapter to an upcoming economic publication. Navigating the path towards a published work was both an exciting and demanding endeavor. It urged me to synthesize my knowledge, polish my writing prowess, and truly engage with the subject matter.

Beyond the realm of economics, my internship bestowed me the privilege of satisfying my lust for travel and new experiences. Anchored in Vienna, I had the chance to explore the heart of Central and East Europe. From the idyllic shores of Croatia to the alluring castles of the Czech Republic, the bustling markets of Hungary to the historical richness of Slovakia, I witnessed the captivating tapestry of cultures that span centuries.

These experiences not only broadened my horizons but also underscored the interplay of economics and culture in shaping societies and nations. The insights I gained within the walls of the Austrian Economics Center were seamlessly complemented by my escapades across different countries.

As I bid adieu to this transformative summer, I carry with me not only the economics acumen cultivated at the Austrian Economics Center but also a newfound admiration for the potency of diverse viewpoints and cross-cultural interactions. My internship journey has etched an enduring mark on my personal and professional voyage, serving as a reminder that authentic growth arises when we step out of our comfort zones and embrace the unfamiliar.

A special thanks to the Stephenson family, and specifically Richard J. Stephenson, for funding this internship. Additional thanks to Lewis McCrary and Daniel D’Amico for their assistance during my planning process.
