This summer, I had an incredible experience in Washington, D.C. interning for Stanton Chase, an executive search firm. I was selected alongside Will Fremion and Luke Purichia to intern at the D.C. office under the supervision of Abbey Connor. During the internship, we helped the consultants with various projects including searches, candidate research, the firm’s newsletter, and more. This work was hands-on and gave me a lot of experience within executive search, and more generally, working in a fast-paced environment where mistakes just couldn’t happen. That pressure pushed me to be more detail-oriented and reliable than I’d ever had to be before. We also had a final presentation where we pitched some tools for the firm to use moving forward, and they adopted two of them.
Some highlights of the internship were when we were flown out to Chicago for a weekend for a business development trip. During the trip, we were treated extremely generously by Jeff
Perkins, who brought us out on his boat, took us out to eat, and more. Another favorite memory was when all of the consultants flew into D.C. for a few days. Getting to meet them in person and learn from them directly was something I won’t forget. Other highlights were when Peter Wright took us on his taco tours, where we got to hang out with the other Wabash interns in D.C. Outside of work, Luke, Will, and I would hang out most nights, including trips to the local AMC to catch some good movies. Getting close with them made the whole summer that much better, and it’s a friendship I know will last long after the internship.
This experience will help my long-term goals in a lot of ways. Being in a professional setting like this will help any part of my career going forward, and the work I did connecting candidates with companies lines up directly with what I want to do long-term in talent representation. Overall, the experience I had this summer will never be replicated. I can’t thank Jeff Perkins and everyone at Stanton Chase enough for the opportunity.
