This Summer, through the CIBE program, I had the opportunity to work as an assistant golf director at the Crawfordsville Country Club. I work alongside Zach Waldon, a Wabash alumnus of 2023. Some highlights from this internship were running events like the member golf outing and planning the Fourth of July golf outing. I am enjoying learning all the ins and outs about running the golf course. Some takeaways I gathered from working at the golf course were some of the day-to-day operations at the country club. I like learning what Zach has done to improve the country club from the golf side. I enjoy meeting new members at the golf course all the time and talking about their personal lives. This topic fits my major in rhetoric through the public speaking I had to do during my internship. Whether it was reading the rules to members before a match in front of 30 members, or being able to talk to a member about a complaint they had. How does this fit my long-term goals in life of being a successful salesman in two ways, first through being able to have good conversations with adults about all topics. Secondly, I worked on the marketing side of things for the country club and created flyers and advertisements, which was a good experience for me to learn. I enjoy the responsibility Zach gave me at the golf course, allowing me some days to run the course by myself. Another part I found interesting during my internship was being able to see Zach’s three-year plan for the golf course. He talked about what features he wanted to add to the course and what he needed to add to the pro shop to improve the members’ experience at the golf course. I want to thank the donors of Wabash College and the CIBE program for allowing me to have this amazing experience at the Crawfordsville Country Club.
