This summer I worked for the Help Desk and did IT work as an internship. I installed new computers in various labs across campus as well as installed new computers for different professors. This new skill I learned is very practical and has many real world uses for a possible job later in life or when a friend needs a helping hand. As the summer went on, I had more and more responsibilities to take ahold of, but with practice I got the hang of it. One of the most important things was setting up a schedule and abiding by that every single day. From 8 – 4:30 I must be in the room ready to do whatever is asked of me. Staying consistent has always been a struggle of mine, but I am finally learning how to do it. The strengths test really helped me in the fact that it told me exactly what I was good at. One example is my ability to work in groups very well. In group projects I helped organize differing parts that ended up speeding up any process that we were tasked with. In the future, I hope to be able to use these skills as well as what I learned this summer to help me progress in the field of my choosing. My supervisor, Mike Heinold, really taught me everything that I learned this summer and has assisted me whenever I needed it. This is a quote he provided me. “Matthew has been a great addition to our IT team this summer. He has been punctual, hardworking, and has the skills and knowledge required for any task that’s assigned to him. He gets along with his co-workers and has proven to be a team player.” Overall, this summer has been a real blessing in that it allowed to branch out and meet some new people while learning many dnew skills. It also gave me the chance to stay on campus and dive deeper into the Wabash culture as a whole.
