I would like to start this blog with a massive thank you to the donors behind the Dill Fund, which has allowed me to have this internship opportunity, for which I am forever grateful.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to Wabash’s very own Rory Willats ’17 for helping me obtain these internships and for being a great mentor throughout both internship processes. Without his help, I would not have been able to participate in these internships. Through the Dill Fund, I was able to do two one-week internships centered on my love for the fine arts. One internship was on the production management side in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for a chamber
ensemble named Amity Trio. For the Amity Trio, I spent countless hours scouting film locations for their upcoming music video, setting up detailed schedules and deadlines for their project, and, most importantly, learning the many ways one can successfully immerse oneself in the world of the arts. Even though it was not strictly theater-based, I still learned and gained skills vital for my future work in the theater. I was also fortunate that, through this internship, I was able to meet and network with the University of New Mexico’s theater faculty. The advice and anecdotes I received helped me learn about new playwrights aligned with my interests, the different ways one can pursue a career in theater, and how I might pursue a higher level of education in the future. My other internship focused heavily on the early stages of devising a play in London, United Kingdom. This internship was with Rory Willats ’17 and director/writer Sarah Calver. This work focused heavily on the first few stages of devising a play and was a great way to gain insight into how to bring one’s creative vision to life in theater. As someone with limited experience in the devising process, this internship allowed me to seek advice and learn how to create theater. I also networked with artists based in London and, in my free time, saw productions in London’s West End, which allowed me to research and focus on ways I can become a better actor. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity through the Dill Fund, and I am extremely grateful for the new people I networked with and the advice I received.
