My summer internship with enFocus was unlike anything I could have expected. I was fortunate enough to be able to work with the City of Elkhart on helping them adjust their new fee schedule in accordance with House Bill 1001, which was approved by the state of Indiana. In this project, I was given the opportunity to take true ownership of my own work, which is something I would have never expected from an internship. My main deliverable for my project was a large-scale Excel sheet that had data from other cities to compare the fee amounts, which also had an adjustable calculator to make sure that the City of Elkhart had all the tools necessary to make the final decisions on how they wanted to determine their fee amounts.
I would like to give a huge shout-out to my two different supervisors, Matthew and Maghi; without their guidance, I would not have been able to complete all the different work that I was given the opportunity to tackle.
Something I was able to take away from the experience I had this summer is that I now am able to understand the term “love your job.” This expression to me before this summer was just something that people said to make themselves feel better about their current job. After this summer, I now understand what it looks like to come into work and have a real passion for the work you do. All of this was made possible by the entire enFocus team, who truly make you feel like family when you first walk through the door.
A quote that stuck with me through the conclusion of my internship is, “Be curious because you never know what question will give you the answer you’re looking for.”
