My internship experience with HomeGymCon this summer was a great opportunity to learn, grow, and better understand what it takes to work in the private sector. Throughout the summer, I worked closely with my supervisor, Jake Joworski, an excellent mentor and boss. Jake gave me meaningful responsibilities while also teaching me valuable lessons about logistics,
communication, and business operations.
One of the most valuable parts of my experience was working directly with Jake and getting a glimpse into what goes into running your own business. I learned how to navigate and organize Google Forms, manage event logistics, communicate with vendors and attendees, and help prepare for a large-scale event. These responsibilities showed me the many behind-the-scenes
moving parts needed to make an event successful.
This internship also allowed me to expand my communication and networking skills. Whether I was communicating with vendors, attendees, or other members of the HomeGymCon team, I became more comfortable interacting with different types of people in a professional setting. Working on the front kiosk team was especially valuable because it gave me experience handling customer questions and concerns while representing the organization. These experiences helped me become more confident and adaptable in professional interactions.
It was also particularly meaningful to work so closely with a Wabash alumnus who has built a career in the private sector. Having Jake as a mentor let me see how skills developed at Wabash translate into a professional environment. His guidance and willingness to involve me in different aspects of the business made the experience invaluable.
Looking ahead, this internship fits well with my long-term goal of working in the private sector and continuing to develop my professional skills. It also strengthened my interest in pursuing future opportunities with HomeGymCon. I am grateful to Jake and the entire HomeGymCon team for the opportunity, and I would especially like to thank the donors who helped make this
experience possible. Their support allowed me to gain experiences that I will carry with me throughout my career.
