This summer, I had the absolute pleasure of interning for Career Services. The gracious opportunity to apply for this internship came about in May of 2022, when Jacob Riley ’20, my current boss, sent out the application form. During my time at the office, I had the privilege of engaging in a diverse array of tasks and projects that enriched my summer experience. One aspect of my internship involved reviewing and providing feedback on resumes. This practice provided me with valuable insights into the art of crafting a professional resume. While I’ve gained a solid foundation in this skill, I recognize the need to further refine and expand my expertise to better assist my peers. Jake’s guidance was instrumental in my development, as he patiently walked me through the intricacies of crafting effective resumes and cover letters. His expertise and insights into avoiding common pitfalls were invaluable. My role often included extensive resume reviews and organizing materials in the suit room. Attending networking events and workshops was another highlight, as these experiences were not only alluring but also immensely beneficial. The opportunity to participate in these activities allowed me to observe the inner workings of professional interactions firsthand, a facet I greatly cherished.
Undoubtedly, the most fulfilling part of my internship was being able to immerse myself in these practical experiences. Handling day-to-day tasks, though repetitive, provided me with a keen eye for identifying areas of improvement within resumes. Beyond this, I dedicated time to meticulously measuring, cataloging, and organizing accessories such as ties, shoes, button downs, and sports coats—a task that synergized with my strengths as a maximizer and a learner. Throughout my tenure with Career Services, a profound realization dawned upon me: I have an innate passion for assisting others and offering guidance to enhance their resumes. This not only contributes to bolstering the employment prospects of fellow Wabash College students but also brings me immense joy. As I engaged in the myriad responsibilities within the suite room, I unearthed opportunities to tap into my strengths. My role continually challenged me to optimize systems and methodologies, fostering a desire for increased efficiency and effectiveness.
In summation, my time with Career Services has been transformative. The wealth of experiences and knowledge I’ve gained has solidified my career aspirations and ignited a profound desire to facilitate the growth of my peers. I am deeply grateful for this enriching
