Interning at Wabash this Summer exceeded my expectations, and I’m so grateful that I got to be a mentor in Pathways To Your Future and the Wabash Liberal Arts Immersion Program. Both programs gave me the opportunity to see the diversity of Wabash and just how valuable the education here is. Pathways To Your Future was an amazing program, as I got to meet many high schoolers from different backgrounds, who were given the opportunity to see what Wabash had to offer. Throughout the one-week program, these students got to meet various professors and faculty at Wabash, and gave them a hands-on look at what it means to work as a team and to show resilience in a community. The highlight for me was the trip to Indianapolis towards the end of the program. We started the day off at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, followed by a trip to the OneAmerica tower, then to AMP Indianapolis, and finally to the Indianapolis International Airport. This was amazing as this was the first time that many of these students have been to Indianapolis, and they got to experience the culture there. This program wouldn’t have been possible without the leadership of Mr. Kim King and Dean Steven Jones. The Wabash Liberal Arts Immersion Program was a very thought-provoking and engaging program.

Throughout the month, students got to take an English class and be a part of different modules that looked at history, biology, and the classics. Being a mentor to these Wabash students is an experience that I will never forget, and the skills that I got from this experience are ones that I will use inside and outside of Wabash as well. I got the chance to really connect with students from the class of ‘27 and help them figure out their interests. Wether it was finding out which major they wanted to pick or which clubs to join on campus, it was a great experience to help steer them in the direction they wanted to go. One of the Clifton Strengths that I wanted to implement was communication, and by using communication, the other mentors and tutors were able to resolve any potential conflicts and help build connections between the students. WLAIP was such a great program, and I’m so happy that I got to be a part of it. This program couldn’t have been possible without the leadership of Dr. Horton, Dr. Kopplemann, and Coach Olivias.
