As an incoming freshman in 2021, the Wabash Liberal Arts Immersion Program granted me with an invaluable head start towards shaping my educational journey and has significantly influenced my tenure at Wabash up to this point. Embarking on my first semester that fall, I found myself steps ahead of my fellow freshmen. I had already earned a college credit, established a rhythm for the ebb and flow of college life, cultivated essential study habits, and forged numerous profound connections with faculty, staff, and students—many of whom I am still closely connected with to this very day. With these experiences deeply ingrained, I was eager to reciprocate the program’s impact, assuming the role of a Writing Tutor for this year’s participants.
What truly differentiates this experience is the relationships and interactions it fosters. I was fortunate to engage with faculty, staff, incoming freshmen, upper-class students, and esteemed alumni. They generously offered mentorship, guidance, and companionship, enriching not only my academic path but also reaffirming my dedication to nurturing meaningful connections—a fundamental facet of my character. Whether through countless one-on-one writing sessions, facilitating thought-provoking class discussions, or sharing insights to smoothen the transition into college life, the satisfaction of positively influencing nearly 30 incoming freshmen was immeasurable.
I extend my heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Lamberton, Dr. Benedicks, Dr. Horton, and Dr. Koppelmann for their unwavering encouragement and direction throughout this transformative summer program. Their mentorship and patience played a pivotal role in shaping my experience both as a freshman participant and as a junior contributing to the program’s administration. The WLAIP Summer Institute truly served as a steppingstone in my personal and professional evolution.
The interdisciplinary exposure, guidance, and self-discovery it facilitated have left an indelible imprint on my Wabash journey. As I advance, I am enthusiastic to embrace the forthcoming challenges and opportunities, armed with the wisdom and connections that the WLAIP encounter has afforded me.
