As the summer sun sets on yet another memorable season, I find myself reflecting on thetransformative experiences I’ve had while working at Camp Grier. On May 28th, 2023, myjourney at this summer camp began as a camp counselor. I discovered this internship opportunitywith my fellow WLAIP brothers during an internship day hosted by Wabash College. From thestart, I knew it would be an amazing experience because I love being outdoors and working withchildren, striving to be a positive influence on their lives.

Throughout my time at Camp Grier, I’ve been faced with various challenges that have pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I’ve engaged in activities I had never done before, such as backpacking, sleeping in the woods, and even staying in cabins I never thought I’d step foot in.However, what made these experiences enjoyable was the kids. Every week, and sometimes every two weeks, I had the pleasure of exploring the outdoors with a new group of campers. For some, it was their first time, while others were seasoned adventurers. It was a joy to share these moments with them.

This internship has been a valuable learning experience, helping me improve my skills in patience, organization, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and much more.Camp Grier has been instrumental in developing these skills, which will benefit me in any future endeavors I pursue, and for that, I am forever grateful.

As the summer draws to a close, I am grateful for the priceless experiences and life lessons I’ve gained from working at camp. The memories of laughter, friendships, and personal growth will always hold a special place in my heart. From learning the importance of teamwork and adaptability to understanding empathy and leadership, these lessons will undoubtedly shape my life moving forward. Working at camp has not only made me a better team player and leader, but it has also made me a more compassionate and understanding human being. I carry these lessons with me as I embark on new adventures, knowing that the skills and values I’ve acquired will continue to guide me towards a fulfilling and purposeful future.
