Early this last spring semester, several of my fraternity brothers and I decided to pursue a bucket list experience by traveling throughout Europe. We decided to study abroad at Harlaxton Manor with Dr. Mikek from Wabash. We could not wait to arrive. Once we entered the manor grounds, the area was breathtakingly surreal. Prior to going to Harlaxton, I knew extraordinarily little about Great Britain and their exit from the European Union and European economics. Within four weeks of studying, I am confidently talking about economics in Europe as well as learning a lot about what locals think on the manner. In addition to class, we were able to travel quite a bit. We traveled to Scotland, Netherlands, Greece, Portugal, and Spain.

Scotland was interesting due to its history with England. Prior to leaving, I knew the Scots have some animosity towards England due to a bloody history. When I got there, we heard plenty about it from the local blue-collar crowd who were extremely welcoming to us Americans. Amsterdam, Netherlands was not extremely far off. They loved Americans there as well and were extremely welcoming to us.
On the contrary, Greece, Spain, Portugal was a bit more of a culture shock. The language barrier is creating a little bit of a divide for us and our travels. This was educational however because it is important to know what it feels like to be the odd man out unlike, we feel in America. Never had I been in the position where I needed to use the Spanish I have studied in class.
All in all, this experience was truly a blessing. I feel so much more open-minded to new ideas and places. I really feel motivated now to travel and see the world because it really is a beautiful place. I would say that this experience really aided my major in religion as well. We saw an endless abundance of Christian and Islamic historical sights, particularly in Spain and Portugal. The fund granted to me made this trip feasible and I could travel without worrying as much. I am forever grateful for that.
Lastly, the two pictures attached are taken in London and the Manor. First day of the trip, a bagpiper played English tunes to welcome us. The second is taken in London at the Supreme Court, where Brexit was officially passed!
