My time as a Summer RA has truly been a beneficial and rewarding experience. I’ve
been able to create friendships not only with my coworkers but with the admission staff and camp service crew members. I’ve been able to explore parts of campus I never would have been introduced to had I not been a Summer RA and I feel as if my connection and love for the campus have grown exponentially. We started the summer under Mike Lynn’s supervision but switched to work under Dean Welch after Mike left Wabash. It was a treat meeting Mike before he went to his new job as he allowed us to pick his brain and gain insight into the ins and outs of campus. Dean Welch further added to the insight and continues to help improve our day-to-day work experience.

With this job I was granted the treat of preparing rooms for returning and incoming students, setting them up for success and all the opportunities soon to come their way. I took extra pride in cleaning the freshman dorms as I am only two years removed from my own freshman orientation experience, so it is still somewhat fresh in my mind. Making sure they had everything they needed from me and making sure the equipment was nice and in great shape was one of my top priorities this summer. It was especially easy to accomplish this goal thanks to the help from the college and individuals such as Dean Welch, David Morgan, and Travis Jones. They made sure we had sufficient equipment and they were reliable resources to reach out to if we needed a hand.

An underrated part of my summer was having access to the schools’ facilities throughout the entirety of the summer. This allowed me to use the weight room and wrestling room frequently and raised my athletic capabilities immensely. I was able to set myself up physically for the incoming season and feel better than I have ever been at my sport. I not only grew physically this summer but also academically with access to the library daily. With that access I was able to start and finish a new book which has me truly excited for the upcoming school year
