Rodney Hendricks ’22 — I would like to thank Wabash College for all of the opportunities it has afforded me in my time there. The school helped me to land an amazing law internship for the summer and find funding for it so I could focus on that internship without needing another job to make money. And I would like to thank Wabash Public Policy Project for granting that funding to me.
This internship has allowed me to enter the law field before I attended law school which is very difficult to do. Throughout the internship, I have gotten to take advantage of many meetings with high-ranking members of the Indiana Attorney General’s Office. I was also able to receive weekly training and directions that got me acquainted with each division in the office and I learned a lot from these meetings.
As for the actual work that I did in the internship. I was given two assignments under investigators where I would be responsible for investigating something in their department. The first was in telephone privacy where I was responsible for inspecting do not call list violations. I would try to find out where the call originated and whether there was anything that could be done about it. My other investigator assignment was to analyze case documents and create a memo simplifying the data from the cases. Lastly, I worked with other interns to compile a list of data breach information from other states so the office could use that information to influence new legislation on behalf of the data privacy sector of the office. This allows Indiana’s technology laws to be up to date compared to the rest of the states.
