The years beginning with Adams’s arrival in 1870, followed by the organization of the Art Students’ League in 1892, were essential to the development of the visual arts in Muncie. Together they laid the foundation for a new century that was approaching. The art environment was becoming so fertile that a cross-section of Muncie’s citizens organized the Muncie Art Association in 1905 to provide an even broader base for supporting art. One building block lead to another with the reopening of the Eastern Indiana Normal University as Eastern Division of Indiana State Normal School, later renamed Ball State Teachers College in 1922.
