I was lucky enough to spend this summer becoming better and better with each day doing my favorite activity – coding. For this summer, I set a goal for myself to create a Java application that would challenge my skills and push the boundaries of my knowledge. I wanted to go over the most complicated tasks in modern web development to prove to myself that I
can overcome any problem and gain the knowledge that would demonstrate me as a suitable job candidate for any FAANG company. To complete my summer goal, I decided the create a Java application that would be useful for any company that follows «Walmart’s» model, where
each worker gets tasks based on his role (job position) and it is mandatory to keep track of the storage.

As I wanted to get appropriate knowledge to become a FAANG coder, I decided to implement the application using the newest technology stack. I spent several days reading about different application designs and a couple of other days understanding the pros and cons of each of them. In the end, I decided to create a cloud-based application that would follow a microservice architecture design. As it was a new topic for me, I had to learn a colossal amount of new information within a short period. And I want to thank my lovely Wabash College for helping me learn new skills. With Wabash funding for my summer project, I could afford to buy any needed books, enroll in any course, and pay for the software subscriptions and cloud hosting. This financial support and belief in my abilities gave me wings to create and never give up.

By the end of the summer, with the help of Wabash College, I was able to create an application that includes the majority of the most used practices and tools for development in the industry. They include but are not limited to: Spring Boot framework, Java, React.js, integration of naming server with Gateway API, request tracing, Database management, usage of message broker, and many others.

I believe my application demonstrates that I am fully prepared to work as a professional in any major tech company. This application will not only help me land an internship in the industry next summer, but it has also reinforced my confidence that a career in IT is the right path for me. The process of building this application has been incredibly rewarding, and I have enjoyed improving my skills each day. I will always remember the support I received from Wabash, and I am committed to being the best alumnus I can be, helping future generations of Wabash brothers.
