his summer I worked as a Sales Intern with Commodity Transportation Services (CTS) in their Indianapolis office. CTS is a third-party freight broking firm that specializes in frozen foods and produce. I would like to first extend my gratitude and thanks to Wabash College, and the Career Service Office for helping me secure this position. This internship opportunity would not have been made possible if it was not for the CIBE Small Business Internship Fund (SBIF) and the gracious donors of this wonderful college.
In this role I was tasked with many different jobs ranging from tracking and tracing loads of products that are currently in-transit, to data entry and analysis, and many more. This experience was very beneficial for me as I was able to gain a lot of insight into an industry, I had no prior knowledge of. The logistics realm is a very large and growing
industry with many different opportunities for someone looking into sales, accounting, and many more specialties.
This internship was my first experience working in a sales role. I successfully sourced and completed close to 25 sales in my time this summer. With this experience I was able to learn different approaches on how to try and promote and close out a sale, and how to deal with hearing “No”. After this experience I now feel more comfortable having conversations with customers over the phone and email. This is very beneficial because whatever field you are in communication is always a key to success.
Along with learning new skills like sales and communication I also learned what it is like to live on your own and handling all the roles that come with that. Having to make your own meals, pay your bills, and maintain a good work/life balance. I gained an insight into how to make a personal budget and follow through with it.
I would like to thank Jack Wagner ‘20 for this great opportunity, and the SBIF for making it all possible.
