Over this past summer I had the pleasure of working for Crawfordsville Main Street in Downtown Crawfordsville. The main focus of my internship there was to create a PowerPoint and give a presentation about the sidewalks here in Crawfordsville and how some of them needed to be replaced. I was tasked with walking around Downtown Historic Crawfordsville and give the sidewalks a rating ranging from a 1-5 numerical system and to color code the streets based on that numerical value.
While working for Crawfordsville Mainstreet I had many chances to also meet many different people from a bunch of workplaces around Crawfordsville. I was also tasked to help set up and work many events over the summer such as the First Friday and the Lunch on the Plaza events. While working these events I was able to meet many Wabash Alumni and recently retired professors this summer. These interactions not only helped me build my network with many different people around Crawfordsville that work for Hoosier Heartland Bank, China Inn, and many more volunteers, but also helped me build my connections with Wabash College as well.
This internship has not only helped me become a better communicator, but also allowed me to understand what happens behind closed doors for my community and why certain things are prioritized over others. This can also be due to the meetings that I was also tasked to attend such as Historic Preservation, County Council, and even meetings that Mayer Barton was in attendance.
This internship helped me build upon my business minor in particular. Being able to understand what it takes to make things happen and all the procedures that you have to go through in order to put your goals into action. Although my future career endeavors lean more towards sports, I would highly recommend this internship for anyone.
I would like to give a very special thanks to Susan Lucan and Heather Shirk for giving me the opportunity to intern for Crawfordsville Mainstreet. They are wonderful people and helped me throughout my internship every step of the way.
