This summer, I had the opportunity to work for Colliers International as a brokerage intern on their occupier services team. Colliers is a global leader in commercial real estate services with offices all over
the country and world. I commuted to the downtown Indianapolis office every day during my internship. At the office, I worked on a variety of tasks and projects over the course of my summer internship. I did a lot of property research, data entry, and even got to create my own business plan and present it to my team. The
brokers on my team also allowed me to tag along on many property tours. I was able to see a variety of buildings including brand new industrial facilities as well as some beautiful office spaces in the towers of downtown Indianapolis. Going on these tours was my favorite part of the internship because I got to see everything up close and personal. I was constantly seeing pictures and learning information about different buildings during my everyday tasks at the office, but I was able to learn a lot more about commercial real estate by going out and seeing the real estate itself. These opportunities not only taught me a lot about the real estate itself, but also allowed me to really learn about brokerage because I was able to listen to how my bosses interacted with their clients as they walked through each part of a building. Brokers need to have a deep
understanding of real estate in order to be successful, but they also must be able to effectively communicate with clients. Working at my desk on different tasks certainly helped me learn a lot about commercial real estate this summer, but it was the time spent out in the field that really showed me how to be successful in this career.

It is safe to say that this summer internship was a great experience. I learned a lot about commercial real estate while also having a great time. Aside from my time working, my team brought me along for many activities including happy hours, a golf outing, and even a peddle bar through the streets of downtown Indianapolis. I am incredibly thankful for the team at Colliers that brought me in this summer and helped me learn so much. I also want to thank all of the Wabash donors who made this internship possible for me this summer. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity that I had. I developed a passion for real estate that could ultimately turn into a career after Wabash, and that would not have happened without this experience.
