Richard Paige interviews one of the College’s finest teachers on the eve of his retirement from Wabash.

An excerpt:

How did you know that now was the right time to retire?
I’ve been teaching since I was 21 years years old, we’re talking about 45 years of doing the same thing. When students would come back and tell me they had done five or ten different things during their careers, I was kind of jealous—I thought, That sounds exciting. So after doing the same thing after all these years I wanted to try something else. And I felt I was ready.

Was it difficult to make the decision?
Oh my god—it was terrible!
