For the Summer of 2023, I worked in the SNL Lab working with Team LOCKR conducting research on our model organisms, C. elegans. For this internship, I was mentored by Dr. Sorensen and Dr. Novak and worked alongside 7 other Wabash gentlemen conducting research towards our team interest. This was my first internship at Wabash, and had no idea on what to expect when spending the summer doing research. Although this was uncharted territory, I found that I was able to learn so much by fully immersing myself in this environment. Going into the internship, my main personal goals were to gain more experience in the lab, become a more confident student, and overall learn more about Biology and Chemistry. Not only was I able to fulfill my goals, but I was positioned to consider more about the field of Biology research and gain a better perspective on my future direction. I found that working with professors like Dr. Sorensen and Dr. Novak was an experience that pushes you to put in your best effort while having a great time.

One large part of the SNL Lab that I appreciate is the ability to talk to another student within the same lab and seek advice. The ability for collaboration and peer resources in my internship was huge for me to learn the way I did and feel a sense of community where I was. Not only has this internship furthered me in my education, but has allowed for me to develop professional skills when working alongside others. If anybody is considering joining a summer research internship at Wabash, especially the SNL Lab, I would highly recommend this experience.
