This summer, through the CIBE program at Wabash, I had the opportunity to intern as the Assistant Director of Golf at the Crawfordsville Country Club. I got to work alongside Zach Waldon, a Wabash College alumnus from the class of 2023, who has been named Director of Golf since last fall. Some of the highlights I would like to mention include creating and running golf outings, as well as the connections I’ve built over time with the members. Also, I enjoyed learning how the golf course operates. I had the opportunity to see how different positions contribute to managing the country club, and taking a deeper look at its internal operations was fascinating. I really enjoyed making connections with Wabash alumni and the Crawfordsville community, who take pride in Wabash and share some of the same interests that I do. I feel that this internship aligns with my major in Economics in several ways. Working with Zach, he walked me through all the internal supply and demand aspects, like replenishing the pro shop with gear and finding out what the members would like to see us offer. I am still unsure about my future plans, which is one of the main reasons I chose this internship. I wanted to clarify my career goals and explore different
options within the business field. One aspect I particularly enjoyed was how Zach trusted me to manage the Country Club’s day-to-day operations independently. Zach quoted, “Cameron is a very quick-thinking and outgoing individual. He’s able to detect issues and
find solutions quickly. He was able to use past experiences to help form new ideas and find solutions, which is an incredible skill to have. Cameron seems to be one to lead rather than follow. I think he can handle the responsibility that comes with leading a team.” This experience taught me how to multitask, from managing the driving range to efficiently getting members out on the course. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the donors of Wabash College and the CIBE program for making this experience at the Crawfordsville Country Club possible.
