As my internship winds down to the end, I look back on all I have accomplished and learned. For this summer internship I have worked under Jake Riley ’20, and Emily Hall in the Arnold House on campus. As an incoming sophomore this internship has helped me learn what the real day to day is like for those working on campus. I believe it also gave me skills that I will use in the workforce later down the line.
During my time in the Arnold House, I had many different roles/jobs that occupied most of my time. I learned about the art of graphic design in my creation of t-shirts for the freshman class. To receive these shirts, the freshman had to have an approved resume in Handshake. Which leads me to another responsibility I had, which was to review resumes coming into Handshake. Before I could even review them, however, I had to learn the actual process. For roughly 3 weeks, Jake Riley ’20 instructed me on the procedures of reviewing these resumes thoroughly to ensure the best possible feedback for the student body. Using these skills, I applied it to my own work and began to work with resumes.
Other than those two responsibilities I worked with the suit room in the office to ensure a cleaner area. Towards the beginning cycle of my internship working with the suit room was a large task that involved multiple weeks of work. At first the room seemed to be in complete disarray but after those weeks I rearranged many suit jackets, suit pants, collared shirts, belts, ties, and even socks. During the end of the internship, however, I sat in on important meetings for new products, which also gave me valuable experience when I came to communication skills. It also taught me how to listen to those speaking and those who were offering valuable questions to the conversation. Finally wrapping up my internship I will be helping the Career Services team with the Ringing In Ceremony. I am forever grateful for the opportunity these people have offered and will be returning to work as a PCA in the fall.
