The Baseball and American Identity freshman tutorial will be spending Fall Break at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. While at the Hall of Fame the class will be further exploring the relationship of baseball to American history and, in particular, how baseball, culture, and identity are intertwined. Students will get a behind the scenes tour of the Hall of Fame’s library and special collections, meet with an exhibit curator, and learn about the educational outreach efforts of the Hall of Fame. Students will also work on two course projects: an analysis of a museum exhibit or display with attention to how the museum constructs the meaning of baseball for visitors and research in the Hall of Fame archives on a famous baseball player from Indiana. Listen to Professor Todd McDorman introduce the course and trip, and hear the students reflect on their projects and what they look forward to about the trip. Please check back during fall break as students blog about their experience.
