Wabash College Media Services Specialist Jeana Rogers is currently attending Macworld 2007 in San Francisco. She will share her experiences of the conference here.
Jeana Rogers — Yesterday and today I’ve been attending a class called Video Compression Secrets and Techniques. Who knew there was so much involved to compressing a video file! This course will help the Media Center to produce better quality video for specific formats like the web and DVDs.
Between sessions I’m able to walk through the exhibits and watch demonstrations. I’ve been able to pick up some tips and some literature about new programs that I plan to explore further. Among the things that caught my eye yesterday were the new Wiacom tablet and software that compresses your PDF files for the web or emailing called PDF Shrink.
There are many sessions that run concurrently so I plan on purchasing a DVD that includes the screen shots and audio of over 100 of the sessions. We will explore ways to make this information available to those that are interested on campus.
The Apple booth is still drawing the biggest crowd here. No wonder, with the announcement of the iPhone and Apple TV. They have three big screens going with presentations about iPhone, Apple TV and Leopard going at various times. Apple also announced a new version of their Air Port Extreme with some nice enhancements.
Yesterday Microsoft drew a crowd with their announcement (finally) of the first Universal version of Office for Mac for PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs — Microsoft® Office 2008 for Mac is scheduled to be available in the second half of 2007.
Adobe also gave the media a special demonstration of the anticipated CS3 Suite that will be available mid 2007. This release will be for Mac and PC platforms. In the past the Mac version has lagged behind the PC release date.
The Best of Macworld 2007 products were announced yesterday also. Read more about these winners and some other editors’ pics on Macworld‘s site. It’s been a hectic 4 days, a lot to see and even more to think about how we might implement these new things into our teaching and learning. Goodbye form Macworld! See you on campus next week.
