This summer I had the opportunity to work with enFocus, a nonprofit talent retention and economic development organization based in South Bend. As an intern with enFocus, I was able to work on projects that benefited the economic vitality of the Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan regions. My assignment was to analyze the feasibility and return on investment of a new cybersecurity standard consulting line, as well as to assemble a database of regional businesses who might make good potential outreach candidates. Under the supervision and guidance of my project manager, I was able to do a full cost\/benefit analysis for enFocus that determined whether the project was within its capabilities and aligned with its mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a Computer Science major who hopes to enter the field of cybersecurity, this internship was a great experience for me. I got to investigate the non-technical side of the industry and gain experience with market research and compliance standards. One key takeaway of this summer internship is definitely the work it requires to prepare a comprehensive analysis of a business problem and potential solutions. My final deliverable for this project was a presentation before all of enFocus\u2019 fellows, PMs, and the president. I was asked tough questions, but I had done the work and therefore had good answers to them. That kind of responsibility in a real business setting is something there aren\u2019t many places to receive while still in school, and it was a great privilege to have.<\/p>\n\n\n

I\u2019d like to thank my project manager, Jody Suryatna, enFocus\u2019 Director of Industry Innovation, for his mentorship and leadership. I would also like to thank the benefactors of the Dill fund, for helping to make this opportunity possible for me and Wabash students in the future. I\u2019ve already had the pleasure of sharing my experience with enFocus with other interested students, and I hope the collaboration between Wabash and enFocus will continue with the support of the Dill fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
