Let\u2019s talk about LinkedIn, and why it is important for us Wabash Men.
LinkedIn is not a typical social media platform, but a space for personal branding and self-promotion. This is a space for us to advocate for ourselves and set ourselves up for success in the near future. We need
to take the little experience that we have and make it look good, while not making it ridiculous. Our amazing Cassie Hagan and Bryan Biddle gave us some insightful advice to guide us in expanding our network and promoting our personal brands to potential employers. To start the talk, they gave us a cheat code for connecting with alumni. Through simply going to the Wabash College page on LinkedIn, clicking on Alumni, and searching buzz words that relate to you, you can find a variety of alumni that are similar to you. You can put what you study, what field you want to go in, what business you\u2019re interested in interning for, and even your hometown. After doing so, don\u2019t just spam the same message to everyone. Send a personal note on why connected with them… let them know that you\u2019re interested in getting to know them and what they do. Let them know that you\u2019re interested in interning or learning about the company. You never know what you could get out of it.<\/p>\n\n\n

We then moved into the presentation of our profiles. To start, simply keep your profile up-to-date and
organized. Tell the people what you\u2019re studying, what you\u2019re involved in, and what you desire to pursue in
the future. This can all be in your \u201cAbout\u201d section. Having this would be better than having the repetitive \u201cI
am a hardworking, goal-oriented, driven young man blah blah blah\u201d. At the end of the day, everyone considers themselves as hardworking and driven, so instead talk about your involvements and experiences that set you apart and display you as someone that fits those characteristics. Lastly, Cassie
challenged us to have a creative title that grabs people\u2019s attention. This is a spot to let our creativity flourish, while not sounding cheesy or basic. There are fellow Wabash Men looking out for us! It is on us to utilize the support we have, and using these tips and tricks is a strong start in your professional development.
