{"id":4573,"date":"2018-12-27T22:59:54","date_gmt":"2018-12-27T22:59:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/magazine\/?p=4573"},"modified":"2023-05-24T17:56:14","modified_gmt":"2023-05-24T17:56:14","slug":"a-world-of-pursuit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/magazine\/2018\/12\/27\/a-world-of-pursuit\/","title":{"rendered":"A World of Pursuit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Joseph Dominic Patacsil \u201919<\/strong><br \/>\nMajor: English<br \/>\nHometown: West Lafayette, IN<\/p>\n<p>Everything was going great for the cross-country team.<\/p>\n<p>Coach Tyler McCreary had joined the Redpack over the summer and senior leader Dom Patacsil started his season running only one second off the fastest time in the nation.<\/p>\n<p>Then Patacsil got injured. All he could do the entire season was watch.<\/p>\n<p>The team pushed through, finished fourth in the NCAC, and Sam Henthorn \u201920, John Kirts \u201920, and Joe Deiser \u201921 earned All-Conference honors. But what Patacsil learned on the sidelines may serve him better in the long run than a victorious season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re injured it\u2019s so easy to pity yourself into oblivion, and when I found myself doing that, I took solace in the guys on the team,\u201d says Patacsil. \u201cIn a way I had been trapped in my own world of pursuit. I felt alone in my goals. Being injured taught me to invest my efforts in collaboration in the forward progress not just of myself, but of the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs I am coming back I think about that\u2014the people I represent, the men of the Redpack who are alongside me, my family and loved ones.
