{"id":1098,"date":"2015-07-07T18:13:02","date_gmt":"2015-07-07T18:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/magazine\/?p=1098"},"modified":"2023-05-24T17:57:07","modified_gmt":"2023-05-24T17:57:07","slug":"sharing-the-spotlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/magazine\/2015\/07\/07\/sharing-the-spotlight\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharing the Spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><i>Conducting research and publishing with students gives them a stake in an important part of a scientific conversation.<\/i><\/h3>\n<p>Recent articles by Psychology Professors Bobby Horton and Eric Olofson and Physics Professor Martin Madsen build on one of the College\u2019s most important traditions\u2014sharing work and credit of research with their students.<\/p>\n<p>Olofson\u2019s work in the October 2014 edition of the <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/journal\/10803\"><i>Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders<\/i><\/a>\u2014\u201cYouth with Autism Spectrum Disorder Comprehend Lexicalized and Novel Primary Conceptual Metaphors\u201d\u2014is co-authored with <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?facet-author=%22Drew+Casey%22\">Drew Casey<\/a> \u201912, <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?facet-author=%22Olufemi+A.+Oluyedun%22\">Olufemi A. Oluyedun<\/a> \u201912, <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?facet-author=%22Jo+Van+Herwegen%22\">Jo Van Herwegen<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?facet-author=%22Adam+Becerra%22\">Adam Becerra<\/a> \u201912, <a href=\"http:\/\/link.springer.com\/search?facet-author=%22Gabriella+Rundblad%22\">and Gabriella Rundblad<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Madsen and Andrew Skowronski \u201912 shared credit for the research on\u00a0 \u201cBrownian Motion of a Trapped Microsphere Ion\u201d in the October 2014 issue of the <i>American Journal of Physics.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Horton\u2019s article with Tanner Tritch \u201910 on the links between narcissism and \u201cgrandiose parenting\u201d was published in the<i> Journal of Psychology: Interdisciplinary and Applied <\/i>in 2014<i>. <\/i>More recently it was cited in an article titled \u201cAre All Parents Narcissitic?\u201d in the November 2014 edition of <i>Psychology Today<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe article began with Tanner&#8217;s senior capstone project, one for which he did the bulk of the data collection, entry, and analysis,\u201d says Horton. \u201cSo it was only appropriate that Tanner be on the paper.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSharing the credit with Tanner also gives him a stake in and accountability for an important part of a scientific conversation, one that is on-going and active.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat publication is a testament to the genuine nature of the scientific inquiry in which Tanner engaged, and his role in the scientific community is documented for posterity.\u201d<i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Conducting research and publishing with students gives them a stake in an important part of a scientific conversation.
