{"id":2856,"date":"2016-11-08T20:11:08","date_gmt":"2016-11-08T20:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/?p=2856"},"modified":"2016-11-09T14:14:12","modified_gmt":"2016-11-09T14:14:12","slug":"competing-for-a-greater-cause","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/2016\/11\/08\/competing-for-a-greater-cause\/","title":{"rendered":"Competing for a Greater Cause"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Christina Franks<\/em> \u2013 On Saturday, the Little Giants will fight to keep the Monon Bell for the eighth year in a row.\u00a0But on Tuesday, the Wabash community came together to help people who are fighting for their lives.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2859\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2859\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/Aaron2.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2859\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2859\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/Aaron2-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Aaron Stewart-Curet '17 donates blood regularly, but the rivalry &quot;Bleed for the Bell&quot; incorporates makes it a little more fun.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/Aaron2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/Aaron2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2016\/11\/Aaron2-1024x683.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2859\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aaron Stewart-Curet &#8217;17 donates blood regularly, but the rivalry &#8220;Bleed for the Bell&#8221; incorporates makes it a little more fun.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Every year during Monon Bell Week, Alpha Phi Omega puts together a campus blood drive or \u201cBleed for the Bell.\u201d And keeping true to the spirit of the week, DePauw hosts the same event on their campus, and it turns into a competition for a great cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, it\u2019s really cool that we could beat the school down south in donations,\u201d Nicholas Morin \u201918 said. \u201cBut at the same time, what it comes down to is helping people out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Alpha Phi Omega Vice President of Service, Morin is the coordinator for this year\u2019s event and loves the idea of giving back in such a big way in a small amount of time.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, 96 people showed up to donate blood during \u201cBleed for the Bell.\u201d Morin\u2019s goal this year was to reach 100 donors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery pint donated is three lives saved,\u201d he said. \u201cIf we have 100 donors, that\u2019s 300 lives. Wabash can make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students, staff, and faculty filed into Knowling Fieldhouse throughout the day. Some of the students had never given blood before and thought this would be the best opportunity.
