{"id":1288,"date":"2012-03-21T10:28:15","date_gmt":"2012-03-21T14:28:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.wabash.edu\/fyi\/?p=1288"},"modified":"2012-03-21T10:28:15","modified_gmt":"2012-03-21T14:28:15","slug":"ny-festival-next-for-harbaugh-film","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/2012\/03\/21\/ny-festival-next-for-harbaugh-film\/","title":{"rendered":"NY Festival Next for Harbaugh&#8217;s Film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Russ Harbaugh \u201906 is taking his master\u2019s degree thesis project, <em>Rolling on the Floor Laughing<\/em>, from the Sundance Film Festival to the <a href=\"http:\/\/newdirectors.org\/\">New Directors\/New Films Festival<\/a> in New York City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/harbaugh.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1289\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/harbaugh.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"425\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/harbaugh.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/harbaugh-211x300.jpg 211w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The festival is a joint project between New York\u2019s Museum of Modern Art and the Lincoln Center. Harbaugh\u2019s film will be shown Saturday, Mar. 31, at the Museum, and April 1 at the Lincoln Center.<\/p>\n<p>This prestigious festival follows Harbaugh\u2019s film showing as one of 32 American shorts at the Sundance Film Festival, Jan. 19-29, in Park City, Utah.<\/p>\n<p>Harbaugh was a Wabash English major and All-American quarterback at Wabash. He then earned his master&#8217;s at Columbia University.<\/p>\n<p>The film was premiered on the Wabash College campus on April 23, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe shot the film in Indiana, in the home where I grew up, from a script that began merely as a conversation between a loving mother (mine) and her curious, needling son (me),\u201d Harbaugh said prior to the Wabash screening. \u201cIt\u2019s a project inspired by films with modern, revisionist instincts toward autobiography \u2014 films like Maurice Pialat\u2019s <em>We Will Not Grow Old Together<\/em> \u2014 films that wrestle with reality while abiding the structures of fiction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/ROLF_MG_9905.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1290\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/ROLF_MG_9905-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/ROLF_MG_9905-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/fyi\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2012\/03\/ROLF_MG_9905.jpg 540w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Harbaugh gave a brief description of his film: \u201c<em>Rolling on the Floor Laughing<\/em> is the story of a love-triangle between a middle-aged widow, a new lover in from out of town, and the woman\u2019s grown sons with whom she shares a candid, sometimes unsettling intimacy. The story takes place over the course of a birthday weekend, the night before and the day of a party.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Several Wabash College alums and friends of the College helped fund <em>Rolling on the Floor Laughing<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The New Directors\/New Films Festival features 29 films and 12 short films from 28 countries.
