Even while being known for his portrait paintings, he still admired the environment stating in 1870 that he, \u201clove[s] nature in all her beautiful forms \u2013 I have felt a strong desire to explore the material world.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0He even stated that at his \u201cearly convenience\u201d, he wanted to start doing landscape compositions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Most of his observations of nature came during his times painting outdoors. He felt that it was vital to have \u201ctrue familiarity\u201d with the changing seasons and the times of the day with a location in order to capture its true artistic beauty.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0It shouldn\u2019t then come as a surprise that he had a fascination with the \u201cvisual change\u201d of each day and season and how that alone provides the subject matter for a canvas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many others have noted T.C. Steele&#8217;s love of seasons. Indiana University&#8217;s \u00a0professor, Alfred M. Brooks, stated that Steele&#8217;s ability to \u201crecord the year\u2019s cycle in its endless changing, spring and summer, autumn, winter, and not only the seasons but the weather; snow, rain, hail, mist, sunshine and cloud, heat and cold, darkness and light\u201d were so inspiring that he said his works are \u201cnature&#8217;s true portraits.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.wabash.edu\/elstoncollection\/art-collection\/t-c-steele-afternoon-sunlight\/\">Back to the main page on\u00a0T.C.
