Lt. Mark Ostapowicz \u201992<\/strong>, of the Grand Rapids, MI police department, recently was an instructor for a civilian training class<\/a> for the Grand Rapids Police Department Citizen Police Academy.\u00a0 Coordinator of the Academy is just one of Mark\u2019s areas of responsibility within the GRPD.<\/p>\n

After Wabash, Mark graduated from the Grand Valley State University Police Academy and was hired by the Grand Rapids Police Department in 1992.\u00a0 <\/span>He is Night Watch Commander, in charge of all patrol operations during the night shift, and Commander of the Crisis Negotiation Unit (commonly known as the Hostage Negotiation Unit).<\/p>\n

Mark has held many different positions within the department, including patrol officer, narcotics\/vice officer, SWAT team, sergeant in the Training Unit, Patrol Sergeant, and he was assigned as the Detective Unit Lieutenant in charge of investigations.\u00a0 <\/span>Mark is also a certified instructor in several Use of Force disciplines; which he teaches within the Grand Rapids Police Department and at Grand Valley State University.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
