The Lafayette YMCA is a big operation, serving more than 5,000 people in the community.<\/p>\n<p>Don Franklin, the director of the Lafayette YMCA, says volunteers are critical to their success. &#8220;The Witts are a model YMCA family,&#8221; Franklin said. &#8220;The children take swimming lessons, karate lessons and gymnastics. Their family helps at camp workdays, races and other YMCA special events.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Michael, a proud father, noted that Mike&#8217;s efforts were a big part of their family winning the award.<\/p>\n<p>This family speaks to our mission in action: &#8220;Educate young men to think critically, act responsibly, lead effectively, and live humanely.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Photo: The Witts, with 5 of their 6 children, at the Y.
