To say the least.

Last week we lost Rod Helderman, one of our IT gurus. Rod was responsible for keeping our computers and printers running. Yep – a more than full time job. Rod was one of the good guys – always smiling, always helpful. I kidded him about being a Navy guy – he gave it right back to me!

Last Friday legendary Wabash math professor Paul Mielke ’42 lost his beautiful wife of 61 years, Mary Lou. While Mary Lou’s health had been failing for some time, it doesn’t make it any easier – especially after a couple has shared 61 years of love and friendship.

Then Sunday morning we lost Patrick. A tragic accident. No one aged 19 is supposed to die – at that age they are all going to live forever. From everything I have heard, Patrick will live forever in the memories of his classmates, teachers, and friends.

These times are challenging but the Wabash community handles them as a true family. The community members take care of each other – that’s the important thing.

Top photo: Flag at half-mast.

Bottom photo: The senior bench.

It’s been a pretty rough last several days here.
