Shawn Crane &#8217;81, a judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida, oversees\u00a0Adult Drug Court, which seeks to divert drug law offenders from jail sentences into supervised treatment programs.<\/p>\n<p>One year ago, Judge Crane began overseeing both juvenile court and drug court, and received a grant which funds a program where adult drug court participants speak to juvenile defendants about their own substance abuse and drug addiction.\u00a0 It is mandatory that juveniles facing drug charges attend the program, often with their parents at their side.\u00a0 The\u00a0drug treatment court was started in 2006; and a separate grant ensures it will be\u00a0funded through 2014.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Before being seated on the bench in 2002, Judge Crane was a Pinellas County prosecutor for more than 18 years, and for seven years he was director of the Sixth Judicial Circuit State Attorney\u2019s Misdemeanor Division.\u00a0 He was a Pol. Sci. major\/History minor at Wabash, and earned his J.D. from Stetson University College of Law.\u00a0 His son, Shawn Crane &#8217;09, is a second year law student at Stetson and is a law clerk for a local disability attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Good work, Judge Crane!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hon.
