That’s Andy Deig ’08<\/b> explaining his master plan for a new entertainment complex (Deigville) in Evansville, Indiana. This massive complex will include restaurants, bars, a couple of nightclubs and an area for live entertainment. Andy and his business partners Adi Pynenberg ’08 and Michael Opieczonek ’09<\/b> have developed the concept and are ready to break ground.<\/span><\/p>\n

I had the chance to listen to their business proposal right after Blaine Cooper-Surma ’09, Chris Haskell ’08 and Chandler Troy<\/b> ‘08<\/b> outlined their revolutionary idea for Media MenU, a new touchscreen menu\/ordering process for restaurants. Think of it as an iPhone for restaurants.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wait a minute – they’re all current Wabash students. What gives?<\/span><\/p>\n

These guys, and six more, were presenting their final projects for the Business Immersion Course<\/b>. This program, funded by a Lilly Grant and run by Kathy Wise<\/b> from the Center of Inquiry and administered by Lu Hamilton ’76<\/b>, teaches 10-12 Wabash students each summer about stating their own business. \u2020They learn all the elements and the final presentation covers their business plan, marketing concept, capital acquisition – the whole nine years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Five judges, all with business development backgrounds, provided sage advice. \u2020Two of those judges were Daryl Johnson ’82<\/b> and Tim Oliver ’91<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n
