I Did Not Come Here To Lose – and She Didn't!

That’s Carol and Ron Browning at Family Day a few years back. Carol and Ron, prototype Wabash parents, helped with Family Days while their son Beau ’05 was a student. They continued their close ties to Wabash after Beau graduated.

I attended a Celebration of Life for Carol this past Saturday. She fought a valiant fight against lung cancer…and passed away this past April. Every time she went for treatments, she wore a t-shirt that proclaimed: “I did not come here to lose”. Ron and the family have framed that t-shirt and will present it to the Oncology Center where Carol received her treatments.

Carol and I talked and emailed about cancer many times. I religiously followed her posts on CarePages. She showed me what the meanings of true courage and true faith are.

Carol Browning loved Wabash, just like Beau. It’s not perfect she would tell me, but it’s pretty darn good. Wabash, she liked to say, made a big difference in Beau’s life.

Carol Browning may be gone before her time, but her positive influence on everyone around her continues – she’s a winner in every sense of the word.

Hey You Indiana Alumni – Vote!

…and you guys in North Carolina as well. And while you’re at it, take your spouse / partner / friend / significant other with you.

Hillary Clinton…
John McCain…
Barack Obama…

Go out and vote. Sure I have my preferred candidate and I know you do as well. But, we are simply in the midst of a historic election and, as George Patton or at least George C. Scott would tell you: “30 years from now…you don’t want to say, I didn’t bother to vote.”

Take the 10 minutes and get your vote in on Tuesday. †Be a part of history…

Johnson, Robert H.

The senior bench – about 15 minutes ago. In the midst of finals, getting ready for Commencement or going home for the summer, you wouldn’t expect this…but this is Wabash and Coach is a special person.

Nothing else needs to be said – the bench tells you all you need to know about Rob, his impact, and the kind of man he is…

Taken with an iPhone…’cause that’s all I had at the time…
